Fennelly's Custom Sheet Metal Ltd. has been in business since 1989 and was incorporated in 1991. They are the longest established heat pump dealer in the Province. Jerome Fennelly takes pride in his company's association with internationally renowned Carrier, the industrial giant whose reputation has been built on providing reliable custom made ‘indoor weather'. Jerome describes the heat pump as “the most energy-efficient way to heat/cool a home or business. It has the lowest operating cost of any other system on the market!” A family business (Jerome's two brothers, and Mr. Fennelly Sr. work with the company) it has since 1992 been a dealer for Carrier Heat Pumps, air conditioning/ventilation products.
Well-Known in the field, Fennelly's reputation for meticulous service and quality products has grown, largely by word of mouth. Today, they are experiencing the satisfaction of welcoming repeat customers, people who have previously built homes, fitted them with heat pumps systems some years ago and now with family raised and want new homes for their changing lifestyle. Jerome advises homeowners to make sure the installation is right for their home or business property. “One of the most critical things to a heat pump installation is the sheet metal ductwork which must be fabricated and installed properly by certified sheet metal workers.”
That brings Jerome to the topic of sheet metal work: “Many people still think of the sheet metal worker as an old-time ‘tin knocker', working primarily with tin snips and hammer, installing gutters, downspout, funnels and kettles, etc. However this image has long been outdated.” “In spite of our nation's enormous growth and technological changes that have taken place, the sheet metal worker remains nearly the only tradesperson to start with raw materials, custom-make complex system and then install them. He can transform flat sheets of metal into any size or shape that is required by working from a blueprint or verbal instructions. The sheet metal worker is involved from the original design stage, fabrication, erection, all the way though final balancing, adjusting and testing of the installed air handling system. Hardly any other tradesperson gets involved in so many tasks. The sheet metal worker has technical and exacting work to do. His varied duties create never ending challenges.” Jerome himself trained at the College of Trades & Technology some 30 years ago.
Experienced in the commercial/residential HVAC business he has worked provincewide in Newfoundland & Labrador and in Edmonton, Alberta. During the oil crisis of 1973, the Carrier company was ready with the energy-saving heat pump which in 1932 it had been the first to develop. As it was then, Fennelly's Custom Sheet Metal Ltd. and Carrier will be ready to offer the energy-saving heat pump into the future.
